GOOGLE HANGOUTS
I am using Google Hangout to communicate with teachers and students across the World. Most people are familiar with video calls via Skype and Apple's Facetime, but Hangout allows a more interactive experience and offers more in terms of facilities useful for teaching.
Key Advantages:
So far I use Hangout to meet with Darren (Madrid) and Mike (Sevilla) to talk about Tech&Teach. More excitingly, I am using Google Hangout with my classes to link and talk with other classes from around the World. In May 2014 I linked with a school in Plymouth, England and another in Grand Rapid, USA. Finally, the screen-casting option may allow us to solve IT problems even when their is not a technician to hand!
Key Advantages:
- You already have an account through the school's Gmail.
- You invite people to the Hangout using Gmail addresses instead of mutually agreed usernames.
- Screen-casting allow you share tutorial and discussion materials with your audience. In addition, participants can show their computer screens.
