![]() A brilliant turn out of staff tonight with four new faces joining us. Thank you (gracias) to all of the Primary Spanish Department for joining - Maria, Maite, Ana and Carolina. In addition, thanks to Elena Jiminez, David Brennan, Sam Boden, Gracia Fernandez, Paqui Jininez and Vincent Favard for attending... and presenting! Google Docs - Paqui I have to say tonight's session was of the best we have had. It started with a perfectly clear explanation of how Paqui is using Google Docs with her Year 11 Sociales class. Paqui has always attended Tech and Teach and without her support I am sure the group would have folded along time ago. To see her leading the session was a pleasure and her example was very powerful for us all. Dave Brennan - Easy to Use Wireless Powerpoint Presenter Dave jumped in to show us all the new inexpensive piece of tech that he has bought his whole department. With so many of the computers in this school being a long distance away from the whiteboard, may classes are interrupted with the teacher walking back and forth to and from the computer. What if every classroom, or teacher, who wanted one, had one? At 15 euros each this is not an impossibility. Dave, with the help of Elena, explained that the device is very easy to use. No download software needed... just plug a small "pen-drive" device into the computer and away you go... click your way through you presentations wherever you are in the class. So... here is the link again to Amazon... if you can't wait... or you are making your summer orders! ![]() Dave Brennan - iPEVO Document Camera Paqui decided to ask Dave to show his document camera! We looked at it last year, but it was great to see it in action again. Dave and his department use it to share student's written work, or to read passages from books. He has a whole record bank of student work which he refers back to. Cheep at 80 euros. Here is a link to buy one from the company iPEVO. In addition from Amazon Vincent's Amazing Automatic Report Writing Program!!!! This had people's jaws dropping and eyes popping! Vincent programmed his Excel Spreedsheets (he is actually using Google Sheets) so that he can produce well written reports that derive from a comment bank that is triggered by data he is inputting into his excel mark book! He could sell this program and make a mint! If given time, backing and a little bit of money (wages) he would be able to transform the reporting process we all face. He was able to write a whole class set of reports in 15 minutes. How!? Because the report was already being written as he was putting in the student's assessment grades. Google Classroom
Time ran out so we could look at all the functions on this simple Google Extension!!! Look at the post below about Google Classroom... we have made a start! In tonight's session we only had 10 minutes to briefly look at the potential of Google Classroom for our school. Thank you to Vincent for showing us some of the trials he has made with his Year 10 French students. We are only a few clicks and one big decision away from being able to use this learning platform with all our students, parents and teaching staff. Links to information about Google Classroom: 1. Everything you need to know about Google Classroom - Part 3 What did you think? Any questions? Write a comment and start sharing your ideas. Think about how Google Drive could improve your work routines... and think how you could use it with your students to improve learning. ![]() If you feel like this when using the school computers then do not despair... you don't have to give up using tech to teach. Naturally, activities that require all the laptops or tablets to have a reliable wifi connection are only possible if you have a well planned back-up if it doesn't work. You can though use the tech when it is only you in control. For example, your class or course blogs are great learning tools for the kids and parents to use at home.
How did you feel during our 1st tech&teach session?Leave a comment and tell me how the first session felt for you. Whatever you write, please say what colour zone you would judge yourself and at least one emotion word.
